Players present: Enkili's; Leiya's; Blaylocke's (he arrives around 2:30pm)
Jolrael's player is still working on fixing troublesome ISP issues.
Grynn's player will rejoin us next week.
(No-frills, barebones notes this time, as below. Possible creative-writing style later.)
-------
It's the 13th of Iyoltan. Party is in Solaré.
Leiya suggests attempting to decode the documents themselves via use of True Seeing spell (Blaylocke can cast this, as well as Comprehend Languages); and Remove Curse (Cleric spell level 3).
The 14th day of Iyoltan = Bael-fyre observance.
The 15th day of Iyoltan, we set out towards Freehold, on our horses. Our goal is to reconvene with Lord Burcel, who has the slavers' documents that need decryption.
(Leiya checks with her temple to see if they need anything done or delivered to Freehold; the answer is no. Presumably Grynn would have asked his temple this as well.)
The travel is largely uneventful, albeit plagued by hot weather throughout, aside from the final few days marked by heavy rains and high winds.
We arrive at the Freehold gates on 22nd Iyoltan, around 5:00pm. We make our way to our warehouse on the docks, and greet Hubert.
Hubert is a bit morose, but doing alright. Leiya presents the Luckblade weapon to Hubert that she'd been saving for him as a gift from the dragon's trove.
He mentions that the local magistrates have adjourned from the recent special council in Solaré; the council's outcomes and proclamations will be promulgated later.
Hubert mentioned that, awhile back, a Sedaran guard had taken an interest in the warehouse/business, seeing it for what it was; but the guard has, thus far, kept his silence and not alerted the authorities. Hubert thinks that many Sedrians and Freeholders are not sympathetic to the current regime.
Next morning, the party (accompanied by Hubert), visits Lord Burcel, who welcomes them. We all gather in his study, where he produces the documents.
Leiya starts by casting Remove Curse, one time on each of the three pages.
Blaylocke, with his flair for the dramatic, makes a great show of setting up and enacting a ritual, complete with incense and other props. He casts True Seeing, followed by Comprehend Languages.
To his great horror, True Seeing reveals that the parchments are in fact made of human flesh. Additional information:
Page 1 - context pertains to Lord of Chains. (Nazrek)
Page 2 - Signed pact in trade for power, granted by a dark emissary of Nazrik. contract/dark pact with dark emissary - some individuals trading to gain power. Narzhuk the Manacled - dark emissary lending power to some individuals. One name we do recognize.
2a - Narzhuk the Manacled = emissary of Nazrik
2b - Ethorm Mourgan - a name that Blaylocke recognizes. He is the father of the slain Tiefling from our 1st outing in this game.
Page 3 - map with locations of the slavers' strongholds.
3a - Nemsh (in Bhell)
3b - Tel-Akaz (Uhria)
3c - Preidham (Lur)
Leiya - Religion check. This all brings to mind something Leiya knows; Nazrek, as the lord of chains (oppression, prison, slavery) -- his heralds are very powerful chained devils. The entities known as "the manacled" are emissaries of Nazrek. So these pact-makers are probably warlocks, as these pacts were formed with Narzhuk.
We jot down the info (Enkili has a calligraphy kit to help, and Lord Burcel also has materials).
We give one copy of this info to Lord Bercel, and keep another copy for ourselves.
We ponder what to do next.
