I would like to see the ruling on that superiority die note as well because the bard's special ability at 20th lvl is written almost identically per below:

Superior Inspiration
At 20th level, when you roll initiative and have no uses of Bardic Inspiration left, you regain one use.

I believe the spirit of the features is to grant the Superiority Die and Bardic Inspiration per encounter, with the first roll of intitiative.  We will see what Irik says though.

You are correct, Roy. The features you and John are referring to are designed for the default (static) Initiative. They would be used once per encounter during the first initiative roll in our game (if your characters have no uses left at the time of the first initiative roll).
