I would like to see the ruling on that superiority die note as well because the bard's special ability at 20th lvl is written almost identically per below:

Superior Inspiration
At 20th level, when you roll initiative and have no uses of Bardic Inspiration left, you regain one use.

I believe the spirit of the features is to grant the Superiority Die and Bardic Inspiration per encounter, with the first roll of intitiative. We will see what Irik says though.
